When my child, Leila, was diagnosed with autism at age at almost 2 1/2 years of age First Steps, she was assigned a "dream" team of professionals to work with her for the remaining few months until her 3rd birthday. Among them was Laura Mize, a Speech-Language Pathologist. My daughter was so taken by her that she nicknamed her newborn sister 'Lara' and the name has stuck ever since.
Anyway, I just wanted to share that Laura Mize recently started a website: TeachMeToTalk.com. Laura has also just released a DVD with strategies and techniques for helping children with autism to develop communication skills and pragmatic language. I've viewed the clips on her website and I think this DVD is excellent! With actual footage of her therapy sessions, Laura brings to life the strategies and techniques that one may find scattered about on the internet and in books. It will be an excellent resource for parents and caregivers who want to help a child with autism to communicate more effectively.
